Murray Gell-Mann

Sad to learn that Murray Gell-Mann, pioneer of particle physics and more, has died at the age of 89.

Here is the obituary from Caltech. The first person to bring some order to Hadron Island and point the way to the Isle of Quarks, he (of course) featured in this blog a few times, including the illustration, above which is one of my favourites. He will be remembered a for a very long time. RIP.
