Yesterday the muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab put out an updated measurement of the magnetic moment of the muon. This is in agreement with their previous measurements but substantially more precise. I’ve written about the measurement a few times before – see these posts – and there is an article by Nicola Davies in the Guardian about the update, with some choice quotes from me.
The excellent seminar at Fermilab yesterday was given by James Mott, who I am happy to claim as a UCL alumnus (I don’t work on the experiment myself but UCL is one of the leading UK groups that does).
As an I aside I note these are traditionally “Cheese and Wine” seminars, but there were some rather pointed comments after the talk about the lab management “providing coffee”. Times change, I guess.
